MAORIS' PART

MONEY FOR WAR EFFORT (0.C.) WANGANUI, this day. The part played by the Maoris of the Aotea land district in assisting the war effort in New Zealand is revealed by the fact that they have invested more than £26 : 000 in war funds. The total includes £12.000 invested in Bomber Bonds and £5000 in the recent Liberty Loan. in addition, a splendid individual effort has been made by the owners of Morikau Farm, principally owned by members of the Whanganui tribe. Their contributions to the war effort to date comprise £1000 to the patriotic fund, £1000 interest free loan to the Government for war purposes, £2000 investment in a national savings account with a free gift of stock. individual Maoris have also invested through the Aotea Maori Land Board. £2000 in the national savings account and £800 in Liberty Loan stock. A further interest-free loan of £500 has also been made.

The Aotea Maori land district extends from the mouth of the Rangitikei River in the south to Whitecli'lTs in the north, and inland to a line running through the centres of Lake Taupo.
