Five Norwegian school teachers who escaped to England say that only 2 per cent of 15,000 teachers in Norway are co-operating with the Nazis, despite such pressure as concentration camps and a hellship. At Skjerstad there had been 1000 Brrcstfi. As a rule the Germans keep in the background and operate through the Quisling Government. For example, "Fuehrer," a new version of the Fifth Commandment, "Honour thy father and thy mother and above all the Fuehrer," is probably intended to refer to Quisling rather than Hitler. At a school near Trondheim a photograph of Quisling which was hung in a classroom was torn down. Another was hung, only to have the word "Cain scrawled across it, The children stand unitedly behind their teachers. A message of sympathy and cheer has been broadcast on behalf of tne Trades Union Council to the Norwegian people. It paid homage to the brave men and women who are carrying on the fight for liberty under savage Nazi persecution, and added: "It has been a matter of satisfaction to British trades unionists that they have been able to assist the Norwegian leaders to rebuild a working class organisation on British soil."
