CORRESPONDENTS' VIEWS
ARMY EDUCATION
(To The Editor)
It has been with much interest and gratitude that I have read the various articles you have published on the above subject. To the thousands of women who have the welfare of our soldiers at heart it must be gratifying to learn that the University Council is keenly alive to the need for a properly organised system of education and also that members of the New Zealand Educational Institute have taken a very active part in drawing up such a scheme. That the Director of Education, Dr. C. E. Beeby, has given sympathetic consideration to the proposals submitted to him is most encouraging, and it is to be hoped that, for the sake of our men in camp and the country generally it will not be long before the Government is stirred into action. Relatives of soldiers are deeply grateful to those organisations which are providing entertainment for our boys, but this alone is not enough. Something of a more positive and soul-satisfying nature is required, something that will give mental occupation immediately beneficial and potentially valuable on return to ordinary duties. A properly-organ-ised system of education would help to keep our soldiers in 'touch with the best in civil life. SOLDIER S WIFE.
