MONEY FOR HOME GUARD
No one can say that the Home Guard is adequately armed, and no one can argue against the fact that any arms that will kill Japanese are better than no arms at all, even n the equivalent is frowned upon by the army and "red tape' officials. This is riot the army's war, and the Waikato has proved that the citizens can arm themselves with excellent weapons. It is crass stupidity not to explore every avenue to secure arms now. In a few months it may not be necessary, with the greatly expanding Allied production, but the Home Guard wants equipment now. Plenty of money can be found for hiding in trenches, putting out fires and saving property, but the same old mind of neglecting the human factor, depriving men of a chance in a fight by giving then something to fight with, is functioning hen.' as elsewhere. How much longer have we to put up with old men. whose minds are in the rut of the past? We want younger, keener men. with more power, drive and initiative, not only in the army, but throughout the civil administration. COUNTRY GUARDSMAN. Hamilton.
