The Home Guard! under Major Little, formed a guard of honour, while a large parade included Home Guard members, all sections of the E.P.S., the Women's War Service Auxiliary, Red Cross, St. John Ambulance Association, fire brigade and auxiliary firemen, boy scouts and girl guides. Their Excellencies inspected the whole parade and were later entertained at an informal supper. Today they were accorded a civic welcome by the Mayor, the borough and county councils, and a representative of the Maori race. A large crowd heard the loyal speeches. Their Excellencies were afterwards entertained at a civic luncheon, departing later.
