U.S. VESSELS LOST
ICELAND AND CARIBBEAN Rec. 1 p.m. WASHINGTON, Feb. 23. The Navy Department has announced that the cpastguard cutter Alexander Hamilton was torpedoed off Iceland. While being towed to port she capsized and had to be sunk by gunfire. The loss of life was moderate.
A message from Willemstad (Curacao) states that the Panamanian tanker .Thalia (8329 tons) was torpedoed near the Moncos Islands, about 100 miles from Aruba. Three lifeboats, carrying the crew, were sighted 50 miles off Moncos.
