REGATTA TROPHIES
The prizes won at the ninety-second annual regatta held on January 31 were presented last evening. The centre of attraction was a display of 10 large cups won annually by various classes. Prize money, in addition to trophies, totalled £ 120, divided amongst 18 classes.
The chairman of committee, Mr. J. P. Robertson. thanked the competitors, the Harbour Board and .the officials, to whom he gave credit for the successful carrying out of the regatta. His Worship the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, congratulated the committee on their decision to hold the regatta ana stressed the good work already done overseas by Auckland yachtsmen.
The prizes were presented by Mr. Hendry Luke, chairman of the Harbour Board, who added his thanks to the committee for carrying out the Anniversary Regatta. The training yachtsmen .received in the various classes so popular here lasted them throughout their life and he predicted a big increase in the sport when the present world-wide troubles were successfully overcome.
The vice-chairman. Mr. J. c. Hew son, on behalf of the Regatta Committee, presented the chairman, Mr. J. P. Robertson, with a crystal water Jug to mark the completion of his second year's term of office. In addition to the regatta prizes Mr. S. Mason (skipper) and crew of Davlna were presented with the Master Mariners' trophy and badges for winning the Jellieoe class championship. Mr. W. Rogers (skipper) and crew of Caress were presented with badges won In the 1941 Sanders Cup contest.
