UNUSUAL ACCIDENT
AIR PASSENGER HURT BURNS FROM RADIO (P.a!) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Burns to the legs were received by Mrs. A. D. Davidson, of New Plymouth, when the wireless trailer aerial of a Union Airways plane on the approach to New Plymouth yesterday morning was struck by lightning. No damage was done to the plane, which continued to Palmcrston North. Mr. W. G. Mander, New Plymouth manager of Union Airways, said a report would be made to the head office, and the Air Department would hold an inquiry. The occurrence appeared to be the after effect of an electrical storm which struck the district in the morning, but had passed by the time the plane approached New > Plymouth. When the aerial was struck portion of the wireless apparatus became surcharged with electricity and a small tube blew out. Mrs. Davidson was the only passenger affected. She was attended by a doctor who was on the plane. The lower part of her legs was burned, though not severely, and a small piece of metal was removed from her leg at hospital.
