SOCIAL FOR V.A.D.
Miss Aileen M. Evans, of Papakura, who has been selected to accompany the party of New Zealand V.A.D.'s overseas, was given a social last evening by the Papakura nursing division of the St. John Ambulance, and the Methodist Church.
Miss Evans has been a member of the Papakura division since its inception two years ago. She has also taken an active part in Methodist Church work, as well as being secretary of the tennis club. Sister W. R. Tomlinson, acting-superintendent of the division, said they were all sorry to lose Miss Evans, but proud that the two-year-old division was able to send a V.A.D. overseas to> help the boys. Dr. G. W. Lock, divisional surgeon. and Rev. W. P. Neale made presentations on behalf of the various organisations, Miss Evans replying in a few choice words.
Items were rendered by Mesdames R. Mellsop, H. C. Baulf and the W.I. drama circle. Among those present were Matron Smith (Papakura military camp), Mrs. Turner (Auckland Corps officer) and Dr. and Mrs. C. Campbell Jenkins, of Manurewa.
