HIGHER REVENUE

CUSTOMS COLLECTIONS PORT'S NOVEMBER RETURN Customs revenue collected in Auckland last month totalled £240,926 compared with £222,625 in November, 1940. Other revenue items were higher by the following sums: Excise on beer, £899; sales tax, £8891; War Expenses Account, £15,311. For the past 11 months the Customs yield showed a decrease of £271,276, but revenue under other headings exceeded that of the corresponding period last year. Collections last month were as follows, the figures for November, 1940, being given in parentheses:— Customs, £240,926 (£222,625); excise on beer, £30,340 (£29,441); sales tax, £110,292 (£101,401); War Expenses Account, £127,295 (£111,984). For the 11 months ended November- 30, in 1941 and 1940 respectively, the totals were:—Customs, £2,584,124 (£2,855,490); excise on beer, £312,007 (£289,012); sales tax, £1,079,264 (£1,043,829); War Expenses Account, £1,240,612 (£560,971). In Southern Centres Wellington.—Net Customs revenue at Wellington this month amounted to £258,394, compared with £231,278 in November, 1940. The total for 11 months of this year was £2,686,041, compared with £2,989,431 for the corresponding period of 1940, a decrease of £303,390. War tax totalled £125,153, against £126,955 in November, 1940, a decrease of £1802. For the 11 months the totals were £1,380,548 and £733,129 respectively, an increase of £647,419. Sales tax in November amounted to £97,229, against £96,209 in November, 1940, an increase of £1020. Beer excise last month totalled £8155, compared with £10,351 in November, 1940, a decrease of £2196.
