CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS
May I try and answer E.W.F. a* to his question about the Commandment. " Thou sbalt not kill?" If he studies the whole of the Commandments I think that he will find that they are all social Jaws for the well being of the community. If the community finds it necessary to go to war and he refuses to go. then, he is guilty of an unsocial act and is therefore sinning. I hope that this will ease his conscience. TJL
The tirade of abuse presented to the Christian conscientious objector bv -Staunch Still" only demonstrates the spirit of hate ever dormant in a certain type of returned soldier. Like many others (Germans included) the Christian pacifist qualifies for the personal application of the words of their Master—
"Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you." Perhaps your correspondent is unaware of the fact that one of the bravest and well decorated men of the last war. because of his pacifist ideals, is serving a long term of imprisonment. Fanatical patriotism and phj r sical courage, minus moral courage. is. v ith the barbaric mind, the sum total of life. During 1914-18 I saw quite a number of arrant moral cowards. WM. BRADY.
