TO-DAY'S RACES
ELLERSLIE FASHIONS SMART SUITS SEEN In spite of the leaden skies which heralded the morning there was a large attendance of women racegoers at Ellerslie th J s morning, when the Auckland Racing Club held the first day of their mid-spring meeting. The course, fresh from recent rains, looked most attractive. Gaily coloured flower beds ornamented the soft green lawns and were a source of enjoyment to garden lovers who examined them. Naturally the light spring models which had been selected for this occasion were not able to be worn. However, there was an undeniable smartness about the frocking, and it was most noticeable that tailored suits and trim coats were the order of the day. Prominent among the colour schemes were navy and white, and grey with varied accessories. Gray ensembles in lightweight tweeds had a distinctive appearance and were especially appealing when combined with navy.
Hats were mostly small with shallow brims, and were plainly trimmed with the simplicity of flat ribbon bows. Bright touches were supplied by accessories such as bags, shoes and scarves, which were worn with! the tailleurs.
