Stars Fall Down!

QNE of the major surprises of the season is expected in the next week or two when the head of a big studio and a one-time important star, still in the big money, put their heads together on a contract settlement that will take her off the screen, writes Harold Heffernan. This star has been drawing a four-figure salary for the past 12 years and her last several pictures have lost plenty of money. Under the industry's new mode of operation—no more sight unseen pictures or block booking—weak sisters or brothers no longer can be carried along. Probably a dozen more "names" will be either cut altogether or dropped far down the credit listings before the first of the year.
