LIEUT. UPHAM RECEIVES V.C. Rec. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 25. General Sir Claude Auchinleck, Commander-in-Chief, Middle East, on a parade ground improvised on a sand plateau overlooking the Mediterranean, recently decorated SecondLieutenant C. H. Upham, of New Zealand, with the Victoria Cross. A protective screen of fighters wheeled overhead during the ceremony, after which the New Zealand brigade marched past. The ceremony was the culmination of General Auchlinleck's lightning tour of the forward area in which he inspected New Zealanders, South Africans, Indians and also British armoured formations.
