SOCIAL SECURITY
The view of your various correspondents in connection with social security have been followed with interest by jour numerous country readers, who are curious as to the parentage of the final form of this measure. It has been registered in the name of the State, but its features so closely resemble the B.M.A. that nothing short of a blood test will satisfy the public, who have been left to nurse a very unsatisfactory baby. When prior to the increase of medical fees practitioners asserted that under that system and with those fees they would gain financially but were fighting for a principle many sympathised, but since these fees were raised and a few other advantages offered principles appear to have been forgotten. Assessments were originally made to provide a full free medical service. If this is not given a refund should "oe made and collections reduced. It would have been interesting to have been present when the responsible Minister was changing his dress. W. PYM.
