Zealand soldiers are fighting their way through the Western Desert in one of the greatest and most critical actions of the war. At the same time the Government is making an appeal to everybody not in the firing line to do something to keep those men supplied with the munitions which they so urgently need, and will need for many a long day to come, by lending every penny that can be spared from the Tha°t lU f!fnH S S!fJ S^ f lif ® tl l e ? tete Ixl the form of National Savings. fund should be growing by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately it is not, and Auckland s contribution to it is especially poor. Fifteen thousand pounds a week is the minimum that should be contributed here It is the province that that sum is not even remotely approached and that two out of every thcee wage-earners have not offered even a sixpence.
