LABOURER IMPRISONED

A labourer, Arthur Hoe (32). was charged before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Police Court with stealing a spare wheel and tyre valued at £5 on July 22 and, further, with failing to make application for enrolment in the National Reserve.

On the first charge accused was remanded to appear at.Otahuhu tomorrow. Regarding the second charge, Detective-Sergeant J. Trethewey said Hoe was a single man. When interviewed by the police Hoe said the reason he did not enrol was that he had been going under another name. Hoe said he was quite prepared to perform military service.

The magistrate sentenced Hoe to one .months-imprisonment.
