SON OF MAN
Had the writer of the letter signed -Babe" attended the lecture instead of reading a very brief summary of the address he would have known that the full statement of the lecturer was as follows: — "The church which Jesus purposes building is. as Mrs. Eddv words it, 'that institution which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race. rous*ng the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils or error and healing the sick.' The very foundation of this church is the recognition of the spiritual fact that the so-called son of man is in Truth the son of God."' This statement refers not to Jesus, but to mankind. The fact that man is the son of God is emphasised many times in the Bible, and Peter's recognition of this fact as exemplified in his Master won Jesus' blessing. That his other disciples, after the resurrection and tne ascension of their Master, had attained the same height of understanding is evidenced by John's statement in his first Epistle, that "Xow are we the sons of God." Moreover. Jesus definitely assured those who listened to him that if they would believe his statements they should prove for themselves that the so-called sons of men were in reality and Truth the sons of Go«L A.
