HEAVY TOMATO SUPPLIES
FIRST LOGANBERRIES SELL
The first loganberries of the season arrived at the city markets to-day anu realised 2/2 a chip. Strawberries were in better supplq, but the demand was only fair, prices remaining high. Gooseberries were forward in greater supply anu rates eased. There was a fair demand for cherries. Heavy supplies of hothouse tomatoes sold to a fair demand. The sale for apples and pears was slower. Ripe bananas were sougnt at the ruling rate of 28/6 a case. Cauliflower was much lower in price, but cabbage remained high. Green peas were m good supply, with values firmer. Good quantities of new potatoes brought high prices, and new season's marrows were ■sought at firm rates. Late rates obtained for heavy quantities of asparagus. All root vegetables brought high values. Prices were:—•
Fruit.—Apples: Delicious. 10/ to 12/ per case: Sturmcr. 9 6 to 13 6; Dougherty, 6/ to 12/; Tasma, 10/ to 13". Pears: Winter Cole, 10/ to 13/ per case. Tomatoes: Hothouse, choice, firm, 1/3 to 1/4 per cwt: others, to 1/2; outdoor, crinkled. 6d to 1/. Oranges: Australian, 18/ to 28/6 per case. Bananas: Original, ripe. 28/6 per case. Tree tomatoes: New Black. 18/ per case: Yellow 12/9 Grapefruit: New Zealand, 18/ to 25/6 per case. Lemons: 11/ to 19/ per case. Plums: Desert, 6/6 to 8 6 per case. Strawberries: Captain Cook, extra choice, 6t02 10 per chip; few special, 3/ to 3/2: others, 2/ to 2,4. Loganberries: 2/2 per chip. Gooseberries: 8/ to 9/ per case. Cherries: 21/6 to 23/9 per case.
