NINETY YEARS OLD

MRS. ALICE HOOKER Her ninetieth birthday will be celebrated on Thursday by Mrs. Alice Hooker, of 26, Eversleigh Road, Takapuna. Born in Cheltenham, England, the daughter of the late Mr. Charles Whittard, Mrs. Hooker came to New Zealand in 1861 in the vessel Egmont. Her father was for some time on the staff of the newspaper Southern Cross. The ship Egmont was wrecked on the return journey to England. When she was 21, Mrs. Hooker went to Levuka, Fiji, to marry Mr. B. Hooker, formerly of Exeter, Devonshire. They lived in Fiji for about 18 years, after which they returned to Auckland. Mr. Hooker died 10 years ago. Mrs. Hooker, who is still in excellent health, enjoyed an outing at the ParneH Park rose garden on Saturday. She has seven children, 25 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren living.
