Danger Of Conscription Issue DIVIDE AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE Ree. 2 p.m. MELBOURNE, this day. A warning to the advocates of conscription. was issued by the executive of the Australasian Council of Trade Unions. The council adopted a resolution declaring that if the conscription issue was raised now it would split the Australian people with disastrous results to the war effort. The council also resolved "to call the attention of the Australian people to the oft-expressed policy of the trade union movement in opposition to conscription for service overseas." During the week-end, Mr. F. M. Forde. Minister for the Army, and Mr. N. J. Makin, Minister of the Navy and Munitions, spoke in support of Mr. Curtin in the contention that conscription would divide Australia.
