In commenting upon a statement | by the Director of National Service, J Mr. J. S. Hunter, that service in the ! Emergency Precautions Scheme ■ Organisation had become a branch lof the Emergency Reserve Corps, under the new title of Emergency Precautions Service, the Mayor. Mr. J. A. C. Allum. said that the position was perfectly clear. A circular memorandum issued to wardens and committees last week had been drawn up under lecral advice, and correctly stated the position. : who had been directed to join it b Armed Forces Appeal Boards. Members were not entitled to resign without the consent of the local ! central committee or of some person i authorised by the chairman or the [Minister of National Service to grant a discharge. | Mr. Allum said that for his part he was not going to retain in the organisation agamst his will anvone who had voluntarily enlisted in it, and that meant that the service was still on a voluntary footing.
