TANKS SPEED UP
DOUBLING U.S. OUTPUT Immediate Programme To Be Launched Rec. 1 p.m. WASHINGTON, Oct. 24. The United States will embark immediately on a new programme designed to double tank production. This was to-day announced by President Roosevelt, who said the new programme would go far beyond the goal of 2000 tanks a month, mentioned by Mr. William S. The President said the tank programme was being developed primarily for America's own armed forces, rather than to meet lease-or-lend demands.
Tanks have been chosen as the first of the materials in the production drive because they are regarded as most urgent.
