SOCIAL PROBLEMS
I The action taken by the Baptist Union, and your subsequent leader on the necessity for prompt action regarding our numerous social problems, must cause all those who have the welfare of the country at heart to do more serious thinking. The results of the recent investigation by the headmasters makes one realise that many parents are very lax in their children's physical" and moral training, and that something must be done urgently to prevent this state of affairs from continuing and to repair the damage already caused by this carelessness. My previous suggestion of properly organised clubs, where the older children could be interested in hobbies, etc., has much to recommend it. Were centres of this nature established lectures and films on the sex education, so needed by the majority of children, could be given: in fact, much good could be accomplished by encouraging the parents to attend as well. It is useless to expect to lower the shamefully high number of abortions without attacking The evil at the roots. It is only by giving our young people sufficient and attractive ways in which to spend their leisure time, we can successfully overcome the problems which are a menace to the health and happiness of all voung people.
