She is still far from strong. Unfortunately Bette will not be able to rest between this picture and her next at Warner's, "The Gay Sisters." The first-mentioned film is. being made for Goldwyn on Bette's own time, the 12 weeks a year she is allowed for vacationing. When Bette recently made a new contract with Warners she wanted to make one outside picture a year. A compromise allowed her to do this, but during her vacation period. Bette's illness and previous disagreements mean "The Little Foxes" will be in production for many more weeks, by which time she must report back to Warners. ♦ + + ♦ IVTOVIE wiseacres shook their heads when M.G.M. released the heavy and gruesome Spencer Tracy version of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" at a time when fans seemed to be buying nothing but comedy. But, in ten of its first key city engagements in the U.S., theatres have been forced .to extend the season. It looms as one of the top box office attractions. So—one guess is as good as another on what the public wants—and when.
