NEW REGULATIONS

REDUCED LIGHTING RULES

Changes in lighting regulations! as they affect Auckland have been announced by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, as chairman of the central committee of the E.P.S.O. for the metropolitan area. With the approval of the Dominion lighting controller, the period of lighting restrictions has been altered from the present span of from 6 p.m. to sunrise to a new span of from 5.30 p.m. or sunset, whichever i$ the later, to sunrise.

Conditions applying to lights in shop windows will now apply also to doorways and entrances. Another important new clause ensures that provision is made for all lights to be extinguished or completely blacked out immediately the warning signal is sounded.

Mr. Allum explained that the effect of the clause was that lights could not be allowed to burn unless they were attended to or unless other arrangements were made for them to be switched off when the warning signal was given. This would apply to untended shop lights and also to household lights which might be left burning while householders were out.
