AMUSEMENTS

"AN ANGEL FROM TEXAS" ROXY-TIVOLI Peter Oilman Eddie Albert l.ydla Weston Rosemary Lane Mac McClure Wayne Morris Marie Allen Jane Wyman Marty Allen Ronald Reacan Valerie Blayne Ruth Terry Director: Ray Enrlßht. Warner Bros. Also: "ACROSS THE SIERRAS." with BIU Elliott. A hilarious story of the adventure*—and misadventures—of a "corn-fed cutie from Texas" in Warner Brothers' latest comedy, "An Angel From Texas," which began screening at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres to-day. The "angel," played by Rosemary Lane, fresh from the triumphs in the local theatre, is bent on a great career in New York. Broadway managers are singulaxly unimpressed by her high school 'histrionics and she is forced to accept a secretarial position with a pair of confidence men.

When country bumpkin Eddie Albert comes to town with 20,000 dollars bulging in his pockets and fostering the fond hope that he will buy a hotel and settle down with Lydia, he is pounced on and sold an interest in a play fairly reeking of moth balls. Complications set in when the volatile original leading lady, played by Ruth Terry, threatens to summon her boy friend,^ "wiho gets out of prison in three weeks," and have him plant a bomb under the stage. Their escape from this predicament and arrival in others makes a most amusing film. Also screening at both theatres is the action-packed Western thriller "Across the Sierras." Bill Elliott is cast ae the famous Wild Bill Hickok and there is a supporting cast of well-known outdoor players. SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Auckland Symphony Orchestra will present an excellent programme in the Town Hall -to-morrow evening. The opening number will be the "Barber of Seville" overture followed by the wellknown Fifth Symphony of Beethoven, chosen as the "victory" symphony. Auckland music lovers are fortunate to have the opportunity of hearing Miss Nancy Reed, brilliant rolo pianist, who will present the Schumann Piano Concerto with the orchestra. An assisting artist will be Mr. J. M. Hoskins in bass-baritone solos. A bracket of Maori numbers will be given by girls from the Queen Victoria Maori School. Mr. Colin Muston will be the conductor. Details of booking are advertised.
