SALVATION ARMY APPEAL
The Salvation Army "Self Denial Appeal is now being launched. This | eftort was born of necessity and it is I continued year by year because that necessity has never ceased to urge itself upon the attention of the Army and upon the sympathies of the public. The widespread distress and nerd caused by the war has been a call to "the Army to put forth its best efforts to succour and comfort the homeless and the stricken, as well as to undertake service on behalf of the naval and military forces of the Empire. In addition the Army maintains homes for orphans, semiorphans, infants, boys and girls and training farms for youths. There are mater- • nity homes for young women, hospital j eerrice for private patients, industrial I homes, hostels and, shelters providing a haven of refuge for'numbers of homeless, lonely., folk, whilst., comfortable eventide homes for aged men and women arc 3bo meeting a great uccd.
