FISHERMEN'S DENIAL

REFUSAL TO WORK DANGER OF MINES An emphatic denial of a statement that Auckland fishermen were refusing to venture out of port at night because of the danger of floating mines, was made by Mr. T. F. Anderson, secretary of the Auckland Seamen's Union, this morning. The statement was untrue in every particiilar, and seamen were taking exception to it, said Mr. Anderson. Admittedly there was a danger of floating mines, but even in the face of this the men regarded going out to sea as part of their day's work. I Furthermore, certain parts where mines were likely to be found had been proclaimed a prohibited area i by the naval authorities.

Mr. Anderson added that there was very little danger of fishing boats striking mines, because of the fact that the work was carried out during the hours of daylight.
