The Bastions
You arc the bastions of faith and nope Who fearless, ceaseless, night and day must cope With living danger and death's sudden- hand, Yet, grandly careless of the issue stand, Firm slaves to duty, slavery's foremost foes. And we, your distant comrades each one knows Your backward call that he shall never pause In stripping Nature's armoury for the cause. There are no weak; we dare not weakness now, But in a pure and human prai/cr we bow. For what you love we lore; the grace of home, The xun, the stars, still water, ocean foam, Clear beauty of a field and trees and < I loam, : A mother's touch, a wife's caress, the ; Of children's fingers, and the lover's : weal , In wooing, quiet hours, and still Labour that honours labour, and the thrill Of simple truth—in these there is ; no stain; i Wβ have your word all this shall be 1 again. ,
