TITLEHOLDER BEATEN NEW YORK. Sept. 6. In the semi-finals of the national tennis championship at Forest Hills, F. Kovacs defeated last year's winner. IJ. McNeill, in the semi-final, and R. I-. Riegs beat Ted Schroeder. In the ladies' semifinals. Mrs. Sarah Cooke beat Miss Helen Jacobs, and Miss T. Betz beat Miss M. Osberne. Mrs. Cooke Wins A later message states that Mrs. Cooke won the final from Miss Betz, 7—5, 6— ?. The match was played in a high wind. The first set was hard fought all the way and was uncertain until Mrs. Cooke scored the first service break in the twelfth game. In the second set Mrs. Cooke won as she pleased.
