DRAINAGE BOARD

BILL PASSED IN HOUSE

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)

WELLINGTON, this day. The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Amendment Bill, which gives extended powers of borrowing to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, was put through all remaining stages in the House of Representatives yesterdav and passed without amendment or discussion. In moving the second reading of the bill, Mr. Anderton (Government, Eden) explained that the bill increased the maximum amount the board could borrow from £600,000 to £650,000. The board was involved in a tremendous amount of work and had to maintain sewage systems of other local bodies. The Government was undertaking an extensive house building programme in the Tamaki district and it was probable that the board would have to construct temporary treatment works j for the additional drainage which' would be required. <
