NEW LICENSES
EVIDENCE NEEDED
CONSERVATION OF PETROL
"All applications for new licenses must be supported by definite evidence." said the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority. Mr. E. J. Phelan. at a sitting this morning, when a number of applications for renewals ot licenses and new licenses were placed before him. He said that consumption of petrol had to be reduced wherever possible. An Auckland firm asked for a license for a truck. It was stated that the firm wished to use it as a travelling workshop, and that the firm had contracts for interior lighting of buildings for the Defence Department. The truck would only be sent out the firm had a ticklish job. and had to send its own men.
Mr. P'nclan said that in normal times he would have no hesitation in granting a license.
pension was reserved, and it was pointed out that the firm could make application for a temporary permit. Sevei a I other applicants did not appear at the silting. and their applications v. ere declined.
