The Mayor. Mr. s. Rlckards. presided over the monthly meeting, held last evening. of Internal Affairs, ndvised that, through the Minister of Public Works, he was able to offer to reduce the hire mte of mechanical equipment to complete earthworks on Lawson Park to a. minimum of £8 per day As the work was estimated to lake 20 days and the cost was too great lor the council, the matter was left to the Mayor, the town ckrk and the engineer to approach ihe Minister. Waste Reclamation.—ln response to a suggestion from the council, the waste reclamation division of the- Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council advised that there were practical difficulties with clcctiic light bulb caps being required lo be returned to tradespeople before new bulbs could be purchased. Trtlcstrian irosslnfs. —The chief traffic Inspector. Trantpcrt Department, drew attention u> the. d:::irtilty of enforcing traffic regulations at two pedtstrian crossings recently installed in the borough. The lelier was relerred to the works committee lor a report-, and they were also lo confer wuh the cruel traffic Inspector about parking areas.
