• WHAT SOLDIERS WANT "FIRST WITH THE LATEST ,, The ''Crete New?," the first issue jof which was republished in the : ■■Star" recently, is an illustration of the New Zcalanders" well-known trait in' publishing newspapers wherever they lto and of their desire to be up wilh the news — '•first with the latest"—at all times. Hut such diggers' papers as the Cieie News" can at host bu only sketchy affairs. And the news which'the hoys realiy want to read ; - usually " conspicuous by its ai.-r-pcc. They know all the army gossip and usually thny are too iniimaleiy concerned with one small section of the war to worry greatly over the general international position. What they want is news from home— unimportant sort of news perhaps, hut of intense interest, to them. To meet ihis desire as far as possible, the ■•Auckland Star' , is publishing a "Diggers' News Summary"' in which is incorporated in brief all the events of interest occurring each week. It only costs throe shillings for this summary to be sent weekly to anyone in the lighting l'itrees' wherever they may l«e. and with it goes a copy of the "Eight o'clock" Sports Kdition. Recipients' addresses can be given in at the "Star" oflice or at any "Star"' agents.
