TANK-CHASING DISPLAY
EGYPTIAN OFFICERS ATTEND (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service) CAIRO, July 3. A striking example of co-ordina-tion between the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and the Egyptian Army was evidenced recently when no fewer than 200 Egyptian officers attended a demonstration of tank-chasing at a New Zealand base camp. Among them was the Chief of the General Staff of the Egyptian Army, while there were also present officers of the Allied forces. Members of the tank crew were men who had recently seen action in desert conditions, while the tankchasers themselves were troops well trained in the most up-to-date methods of this very necessary form of warfare. A commentary was broadcast, first in English and then in Arabic, the latter version beign read by an Egyptian staff officer. Also demonstrated were the effect of a Molotoff cocktail on an Italian tank, and the effect of desert camouflage, at which New Zealanders are considered expert.
After the demonstrations goodwill messages were exchanged, an offer of co-operation at all times possible with the Egyptian Army being made by a representative of the New Zealand staff.
