CITY FINANCE
COLLECTION OF RATES The Treasury Department of the Auckland City Council has sent out approximately 28.000 rate demand notices, and there are yet another 6000 to be posted for the Tamaki and Orakei areas. * Since the striking of the rates on July 4 last £30.000 of current rates have been paid into the city treasury out of an estimated total collection of £611,000. Modern accountancy machines are being used in the Treasury office for the issue of the rate demands, and two of the machines in operation are valued at £1000 each. They are specially designed for the work and are operated by power. The machines print the two parts of the rate demand in one operation, also the amount of the ratepayer's ledger account. Each day's work is balanced off mechanically.
