PLANE PRODUCTION
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT
Rec. 1.30 p.m. NEW YORK, July 23.
The American Chemical Society reported to-day the development of an entirely new type of .explosive, rivet which may prove an important factor in speeding aircraft production and simplifying design. A high explosive is secreted in a cavity at the end of the shank and heat applied by an electric gun detonates the charge. The whole operation is performed from one side with greater ease and speed than is possible by the means now in use. Riveting will be- stepped up from 4 to 15 per minute.
