THOSE FLOGGINGS
PERTIXKXT QUESTIONS (By Telegraph—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. "If a flogging is not carried out within six months of its imposition then by law it automatically lapses " said Mr. Broadfoot (National. Waitomo) in the House of Representatives yesterday when giving notice of his intention to ask the AttorneyGeneral to advise the House why the floggings ordered to be imposed on prisoners who gravely assaulted warders in the Mount Eden gaol had not been carried out.
Are the floggings not for the purpose of deterring similar happenings in the future and for the protection of the workers?" he asked.
Mr. Broadfoot also asked what steps had been taken to afford the warders in the gaol adequate protection in the future; would the warders be adequately armed in the future, and what was the present state of health of the warders who had been assaulted?
