REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK
THE FLOWER GARDEN The improved conditions of the past week should make it possible to resume planting out spring annuals, also perennials. Plants of Iceland poppies, antirrhinums, stocks, carnations, lobelia, nemesia, pansy, viola, verbena and wallflower should be set out as soon as possible. Do not hesitate to hold up planting for a few days if conditions become boisterous and the soil (especially clay) cloggy. This is a suitable time to take geranium cuttings. Most varieties can be struck in the open ground. Continue the planting and pruning of roses. Weeds are starting to grow luxuriantly again. Keep carnations, gerberas. anemones, ranunculi and sweet peas clean. Most kinds of shrubs may still be planted. It is wise not to delay ordering too long, as the variety you want may be in short supply. Plant gladioli for early flowering. Young sweet peas should be protected with supports, tea-tree for preference. Keep the soil round bulbs showing through, particularly daffodils and hyacinths, well stirred.
