The arrangement of a conference in Wellington for next Tuesday with the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. VV. Nash, for Jhe purpose of making representations with respect to the improvement of lighting, was mentioned by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, at a meeting of the councii of the Auckland Chamber of Commeice this morning. Mr. Allum made this statement when the question of the lighting of city clock faces was again, under discussion.

Mr. F. N. Ambler pointed out that clock faces in Wellington were a blaze of light and he thought those in Auckland could be better lighted The secretary, Dr. E. P. Neale stated that he had written to the Chief Postmaster, Mr. G. S. Clark stating that a number of complaints had been received that the lighting of the -south face of the Chief Post Office clock was not as effective as that of most of the other clocks in Queen Street. In his letter Dr Neale suggested the exploration of the possibility of having both faces of the clock lighted so that it would be visible from a greater distance than was possible at present. . D '• Neale further reported that he had also communicated with the Auckland district traffic manager of railways requesting information as to plans for the lighting of the main clock at the railway station. In this letter he mentioned that complaints received alleged that there was insufficient lighting of the vestibule at the station.
