NEW LYNX BOROUGH COUNCIL! The council met last evening, the Mayor. Mr. S. Ricknrds. presiding. The total consolidated rate for the current year is the same as for the previous year. The Mayor pointed out that an increase of £43 in the hospital lew would have Justified the council in increasing the hosptt.-l rate by 3-32 d. but it was proposed to carry this increase and thereby avoid increasing the rates. The Mayor atso pointed out that due to the smnllT amount of arrears outstanding, the estimated reduction in rate revenue was £928. but as all accounts, with the exception of conversion loan interest and waterworks maintenance were In credit, the situation could be met. This vear the general rate was being increased by l-16cl. and the conversion loan interest rcri-iccd by a similar amount to provide incensed funds icr street works and services, and at the same time would provide for the conversion i-ian interest account being in credit at Match 31. 1941. The totrl amount provided lor the year for public works, main highways and plant operations was £E7:»"<. compared with amounts spent for ]9-f*-41 C J .S3S. and 1939-40 £3952. A discount of 2'.. per cent for prompt payment v itrin 3T days, and 10 per cent on rates outstanding six months and fourteen days from Hate of demand were approved. Sand for Incendiary Bombs.—The council decided to secure sutE-icni supplies of sand and store same for distribution when necessary. NORTHCOTK BOROIGH COUNCIL The council met last night, the Mayor. Mr. E. C. Fowler, in the. chair. Water.—A letter of thanks was received from the Takapuna Borough Council for the water which was supplied to tlie borough free of charge. Free Passes.—The af.ip.g-Prime Minister. Hon. W. Nash, wrote advising the council that their I request for free passes for the armed forces was receiving the consideration of (he Government. Rales. The council confirmed the resolution to increase the rates by three farthings in the pound \on the unimproved value. One councillor voted I oafetiM it. »*? MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD The fortnightly meeting of the board was held last evening l . the chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough. presiding. Metromlitan Aerodrome.—The Mayor of Auckland, Mr. J. A. C. All'im. notified his intention not to tike any further steps to Induce the Government to review its decision to postpone the formation of the aerodrome on Manuk.au harbour. His action arises out of the lack of immediate prospect of an improvement in existing conditions. Art Union House. —The Master Builders' Association notified that the sub-committee charged with the duty of selecting and purchasing a section were instructed to find a most desirable site, and out of a large number inspected tho choice finally fell on one in Bingley Avenue, off Quentin Avenue. Mount Roskill. the position being a most attractive one. and the rates comparing favourably with those in adjoining districts. Permits. —Building permits to the value of £ 3620 have been issued during the past fortnight. Twenty-two buildings are in course or erection, exclusive of State house?. Finance.—The general account is in credit £1983.
