DIPHTHERIA CASES

During the last three months there have been only six positive cases of diphtheria among children at the papakura School. This statement has been issued by the school committee in order to relieve unnecessary worry among the parents of pupils. There has been considerable agitation in some quarters to have the school closed, but, after consultation with Dr. Mary Wilson and the health inspector, the committee has agreed that this would greatly increase the difficulty of tracing and isolating cases. A complete medical examination of all pupils has been carried out, resulting in locating nine carriers. The school has recently been fumigated.
