TROOPS ON LEAVE

ACCOMMODATION IN CITY

NO DIFFICULTY AT WEEK-END

A statement that the accommodation in the city at the week-end for service men on leave was not overtaxed was made to-day by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Aiickland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee. Both the Carrie Hostel and the Y.M.C.A. had been able to accommodate all the men desiring accommodation. Mr. Allum said that the closing of Ngaruawahia camp owing to a case of meningitis had probably accounted for the easing in demand, while the provision of 21 beds at the Y.M.C.A., authorised by the metropolitan committee last week, had also materially helped. During the week-end 137 men had been accommodated at the Carrie Hostel and 122 in the Y.M.C.A.
