ENGINEERING CLASS

EMPLOYERS PAY VISIT

Work being carried out in the engineering shop at the Seddon Memorial Technical College, in con nection with the auxiliary workers' training scheme, was inspected this morning by representatives of Auckland engineering firms, who were accompanied by the Auckland Place ment Officer, Mr. J. R. Elsbury.

. The 35 men being trained in age from 25 years to 55. and they receive £4 13/1 for a 40 hour week. Some of the men have had sligh engines: ing experience, but the major.iy have made an acquaintance with the bench and lathe for t'u first time. The visitors were met by the prin cipal of the college, Mr. G. J Park and after inspecting the work they discussed it with the engineering instructor. Mr. H. W, Hollies.

It was explained that the work done in the class had a commercial value. The Auckland scheme was launched nearly four months ago, the term of instruction is now nearing an end, and the next step would be to get the men placed in suitable employment.

The class goes along smoothly, and the men take a keen interest in the various jobs allocated to them One member of the class said he had had a little training in a fitting shop, and felt that he had made satisfactory progress.
