Y.M.C.A. WORK COMMENDED
forts for New Zealand troops at the base camp, was built from £10,000 ■ donated by Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Lowry, of Hawke's Bay, under the supervision of their daughter, Mrs. Percy Chapman. Situated on a fine site overlooking the camp, it offers social facilities to a large number of New Zealand soldiers. Among those present at the openjing were General Sir James Marshall Cornwall, commanding the British Forces in Egypt, Major-General B. C. Freyberg, V.C., New Zealand commander, and nearly every senior officer of the New Zealand force. The Y.M.C.A. commissioner, Mr. ! H. W. Shove, said that ever since I Mr. and Mrs. Lowry made their magnificent gift the Y.M.C.A. had been anxious to make the fullest use of it. General Freyberg expressed the gratitude of the soldiers for the gift. I He paid a tribute to the work of the ! Y.M.C.A. and expressed regret at the | severe loss suffered by it in Greece.
