PENALTY TRY AND CONVERSION KICK
Two instances this season in Auckland Rugby indicate that neither ! referees nor players are generally conversant with the rule regarding the conversion kick after the awarding of a penalty try. In the first round of the competition Army was awarded a penalty try against Otahuhu, and the referee had marked the spot for the kick in a line where he considered the try would have been scored. His attention was drawn by the Army captain, E. Jackson, to the new ruling that penalty tries are awarded under the posts The referee agreed, and the extra points were added from the easy position. When Takapuna was awarded a penalty try last Saturdav the kick was ordered opposite the spot where the obstruction occurred and the Takapuna skipper did not ciraw (Official attention to the error. The kick failed and Takapuna lost two ' •sitting" points.
