Technical Old Boys surprised somewhat by placing second without any of the quartet figuring in the major positions. Good teaming resulted in their aggregate points bettering the points of both the Wesley and Hamilton Clubs who had runners in higher places than the Technical teams. F. N. Orange (University) was well fancied by some to carry off the title, but while he ran his usual consistent race he lacked pace. Of the field this young runner, perhaps more than any other, impresses as one likely to develop into a really star distance runner. Orange should develop his speed by competing in middle distance events during the track season. W. Kemp, who followed Orange home into fourth position, represented the Christian Youth Movement Club of Hamilton. A particularly well built young athlete he showed a great improvement on his form of last season when he was expected to do well. After running most impressively in the Onehunga-Auckland road race the Wesley star, R. Riddell, was expected to stand quite a good chance of winning the "title, but the heavy going affected his long easy stride and he placed fifth. Once on the road for the run home Riddell made more headway. He looks the type to prove a really good track runner. His team mate, R. Douglas, caused quite a surprise by placing as high up as seventh after a rather mediocre performance in the Onehunga race. , . The two McGeehan boys from the Lynndale Club, ran most disappointingly, the elder, Roy, being completely off form. He usually runs much better across country than on the road, but he could not be recognised as the same runner who has caught the eye so much this season.
