HERE AND THERE
ORATION DEBTROYED Mr. P. Meredith, of Kihikihi, suffered a severe setback last week when he had to destroy the well-known sire Oration. A FINE RECORD National Dobt, winner of she Victoria Grand Nufionul, has a fine record in South Australia, but apparently it did not impress Melbourne backers. He won the Great Eastern Steeplechase at Onkaparinga at Easter and after scoring with 11.12 in Adelaide finished second under 12.5. RACES PHOTOGRAPHED According to an American paper, California is considering requiring all race tracks to take motion pictures of each race from start to finish. The films would then be reviewed by the stewards and judgea the following morning, to detect unfair and diohonest riding. NOT MUCH RACING Old Bill has not had much racing this season, but he has won once in his six appearances. Ho has pleased his trainer lately in the li«ht tasks driven him at Awapuni, and all going well he will be prepared for the New Zealand Cup in Kovember. PROLIFIC PRODUCER Black Ray, a 22-year-old daughter of Black Jester, is credited with being England's most prolific brood mare. She won at two years, wen to the stud at three, and her first foal was thrown in 1923, when she was four. She has foaled every time since, and threw her nineteenth foal in March of this year. Severail of her progeny were winners. NEW TRAINER Force, hitherto a disappointing galloper, who waa under G. Ridgway's charge at Riccarton, linn entered R. Wilson's stable. A four-year-old by Valkyrian from the Royal Stag mare Spurs, Force was bred by >lr. A. S. Elworthy. This is his first season, and lie has only made one good showing in seven starts. That was when ho was considered unlucky to be beaten by his stablemate, Arctic Dawn. THE WINTER CUP At first blush Royal Lancer appears to have his full share of weight in the Winter Cup, says a southern writer. In his last stnrt he carried 10.5 in the King George Handicap and was unplaced behind St. Cloud 7.11. In the Winter Cup Royal ! Lancer meets St. C'.oud on 221! i better ; firms. Mo ther could b« cla»s?<l as a gonl handicap horse. Wardress won the W.R.C. Handicap tinder. 7.7 1 /4, but failed in 11 subsequent efforts. He beat nothing of the class of those handicapped near him in the Winter Cup. Royal Lancer may win and no doubt he is a good sort, but he appears to be handicapped on what he may accomplish rather than his form against a good class of home.
