EXPLANATION A naval officer suddenly decided he would spend the week-end at home. He sent a telegram to his wife and took the next train. On his arrival he found his wife in the embrace of another man. Furious, he left the house. The nejtt day his father-in-law tried to smooth things over. "I'm quite sure my daughter has an explanation for her behaviour," he said. "Look here, wait until I see her before you apply for a divorce." The husband reluctantly agreed. The next day the father-in-law, his face beaming, presented himself. "1 knew Dorothy would have an explanation." he said, patting the husband on the back. "She didn't get your telegram. - ' ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ IN MEMORY Writing from Egypt under date June 22 a member of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. said. '"This morning at church parade a big memorial and thanksgiving service was held in one of the picture theatres. The speaker was Bishop Gerard, from Hawke's Bay, and senior chaplain of the N.Z.E.F. He spoke very feelingly in memory of the boys who didwiot return from Greece and spoke well to the point about wnat was ahead. The service was one of the best 1 have ever heard. " 'Last Post' and 'Reveille* were sounded by one of the bandsmen, and one could have heard a pin drop in the few seconds between the calls. It was very impressive and will not be forgotten for many years by all who were there."
